Loveiderma: UV Shield SPF 50 Sunscreen| Review

I am always excited to try new Sunscreens in the quest to find something that is comfortable and effective. So I was more than happy to try the Loveisderma Sunscreen offerings. I got two of them the UV Clear – which is a sunscreen with no pigment whereas UV Shield is a tinted sunscreen with a little foundation in it.

Sunscreen is the most underated part of skin care and I can’t emphasize enough on how important it is! A large part of my life I went without it and it wreaked havoc on my skin. I jumped on the bandwagon late but now that I am on it I am very vocal about getting more people on board. If you are still not convinced about Sunscreen & why you (absolutely) need it; check out this post about some Sunscreen Facts and Fictions.

Loveisderma: UV Shield Sunscreen | Ingredients

Noteworthy Ingredients:

  • Octylmethoxy Cinnamate (8.63%) – OMC is a widely utilized chemical UV filter that specifically protects against UVB radiation.
  • Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate (3.91%) – Abbreviated as DHHB and known as Uvinul A Plus, is a chemical UV filter that specifically protects against UVA radiation.
  • Titanium Dioxide – Abbreviated as TiO2, this is a popular and widely used physical UV barrier that protects against both UVA and UVB radiation. This ingredient is notoriously for the  white cast issue common among sunscreens.
  • Macadamia Integrifolia Seed Oil – Natural skin conditioner that offers anti-inflammatory and anti-aging benefits while promoting healing and repair.
  • Sambucus Nigra (Elder) Flower Extract – Natural extract from Elderberry that works to reduce puffiness & redness of the face.
  • Niacinamide –  Powerful antioxidant, helps improves your skin’s elasticity and works as an anti-inflammatory. Read more here.
  • Laminaria Ochroleuca Extract – Marine based ingredient known for anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Olea Europaea (Olive) Leaf Extract – Natural skin conditioner that offers moisturizing benefits.

In essence this product is exactly the same as their clear variant – UV Clear except for the fact that this has a certain amount of pigment added to it to give a some coverage.

The product is packaged in a plastic tube with a thin nozzle dispenser for controlled dispensing. This is a thoughtful design element because the consistency of the product is of a thin runny liquid which otherwise would have gone all over the place in a conventional tube.

3-Loveisderma_UV Shield_Sunscreen_SPF50_Review_Packaging

Loveisderma: UV Shield Sunscreen | Packaging

This product has a very strong initial burst of fragrance, which to be honest I don’t like! But thankfully the fragrance settles in a bit and is not noticeable after the first few minutes.

This product is exceptionally lightweight and sinks into the skin in just a few pats. Surprisingly the product always remains cool, so feels quite refreshing on application. It gives a semi matte finish without stickiness, greasiness or any streaking.

This is a tinted sunscreen, so it has some amount of pigment added to it. Unfortunately the colour is ranging so much towards white that on my brown skin it ends up looking ashy. But this would work perfectly for the folks with paler skin colour. The coverage is considerable so this could be a very good option on the days one wants to go foundation free.

The brand has an explanatory video about how one could also apply this product using a sponge – similar to a liquid foundation. I am yet to try it this way purely because I dont have this kind of time in the mornings. But I understand that this method will probably help allivate the ashy colour if blended well. Also one could mix their own foundation in it to achieve a better colour.

I generally use a moisturizer before putting a sunscreen so I can’t comment on how moisturizing this would be on its own, but I can tell, by itself it won’t suffice for the dry skinned folks. Currently I am using NMF by The Ordinary and over it I layer the sunscreen. This product layers really well and in times when I have tried wear makeup over it the Foundation/ BB Cream/ Powder Foundation all sit very well on top.

Pros:

  • Lightweight Texture
  • Thoughtful packaging

Cons:

  • Added Fragrance
  • The added pigment will not work for darker skin colour.
  • Not easily available in India
9-Loveisderma_UV Shield_Sunscreen_SPF50_Review_Closing Thoughts

Loveisderma: UV Shield Sunscreen | Final Thoughts

Closing Thoughts:

This unfortunately did not work for me because the colour did not match my skin tone. But that does not mean it is a bad product, I intend to use it by mixing my own foundation. Nonetheless it is a grate 2 in 1 product with a light weight formula that spreads well and feels comfortable. The fragrance is unnecessary but if they re-formulate with darker pigment and no added fragrance this would be a hit!

If you have tried this I would love to know your thoughts and also let me know the other sunscreens you guys have loved. Check out some of the other LOVEISDERMA products I have tried here & here. Also find me on Instagram and lets discuss Beauty.
